HIG at QANTAS Flying School Opening

Qants has opened its new Pilot Academy at Toowoomba, in Queensland. The academy will have the capacity to train up to 250 pilots each year to build a long-term talent pipeline for Qantas, Jetstar and QantasLink and help the broader industry meet the increasing need for skilled aviators in Australia.

Traffic Engineer, Caroline Smith, completed the traffic impact assessment for the development application, which Mike Harris and Cameron Currie also worked on. We undertook the works for Wagners as the site is part of the Wellcamp Business and Industrial Park, which HIG have undertaken several traffic impact assessments for previously, including (amongst others) the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport and a cumulative impact assessment for the over 600ha business and industrial park.

The Qantas training facility comprises two sites, separated by approximately 250m, with an accommodation village and part of the ground services training facilities at one site, and the air training facilities at the other site, which includes hangar facilities and is adjacent to the runway. The opening Mike and Cameron attended was for the first stage of both sites.
