This project initially involved the development of an upgrading proposal for the Woongarra Scenic Drive / Causeway Drive intersection at Bargara. The work included the development of a Concept Planning Layout and preparation of an Engineering assessment report and cost estimate of the works to allow approval to proceed to Detailed Design.
HIG worked closely with Bundaberg Regional Council to provide a suitable concept layout that addressed all council’s concerns and met all the requirements of the Brief. Following council’s approval of the Concept Planning, HIG proceeded with the delivery of the Detailed Design of a new four-leg roundabout at the intersection of Woongarra Scenic Drive and Causeway Drive at Bargara.
HIG were responsible for the organising and delivery of the detailed site survey, geotechnical investigation, pavement design, detailed construction drawings and cost estimate. The project included geometry, drainage, earthworks, linemarking, lighting, parking, landscaping, erosion and sediment control, provision for pedestrian and cycleway, signage, temporary and transition works.
The Project had to address a number of constraints with geometry, services, drainage, pedestrians, cyclists, access, tidal conditions and the requirement for turtle friendly lighting.
The benefits of the Project include the upgrading of the coastal tourist road link between Bargara and the coastal community of Innes Park, Coral Cove and Elliott Heads to the south. It will provide improved safety for the local community, improved operational efficiency, improved access to the local area and greater provision to address tourism, commercial and residential growth. The project supports Council’s Multi Modal Pathway Strategy linking the coastal pathway with the principal pathway proposed for Hughes Road.
